OVERVIEW

Two peaks, three kinds of demand, zero room for generic marketing.

HVAC isn’t like most local businesses. You have two peak seasons, emergency calls that need an answer in minutes, five-figure replacements that take weeks to close, and maintenance plans that keep crews busy in between. HVAC marketing has to handle all of it without paying emergency prices for tune-up leads. Sander Digital Marketing works with heating and cooling companies across the U.S. on exactly that. It’s one of the industries we serve, and it builds on our guide to home service marketing.

Three kinds of HVAC demand run at the same time, and each needs its own approach:

  • Emergency repair: no heat on a cold night, no cooling in a heat wave. The customer calls whoever shows up first and answers. Speed and visibility win.
  • Replacement and installs: a big decision. Homeowners compare companies, read reviews, ask about efficiency and rebates, and get two or three quotes. Trust and follow-up win.
  • Maintenance plans: recurring revenue that smooths out the slow months. Reminders, renewals, and easy online sign-up win.

On top of that, demand swings with the weather. In most climates, heating season and cooling season are separated by shoulder months when the phones go quiet. Good HVAC marketing ramps up before each peak and uses the shoulder months to sell tune-ups and plans.

THE PROBLEMS

Where HVAC companies lose jobs

The same handful of leaks show up in almost every HVAC account we review:

One campaign for everything

Repair, replacement, and maintenance keywords share one budget, so cheap tune-up clicks crowd out replacement leads (or the reverse).

Missed calls in peak season

The phone rings while the office is slammed, nobody calls back for hours, and the customer books someone else.

No page for the job being searched

“Furnace repair” ads and map listings land on a generic homepage.

Leads counted, jobs not

You know how many calls came in, but not which ones became a full system replacement or a small service call.

Heating content goes live too late

Pages and ads go live after the first cold snap, when competitors already own the map pack.

WHAT WE DO

What we do for HVAC companies

Map pack, handled

We set your primary and secondary categories from Google’s list (for example, HVAC contractor, heating contractor, or air conditioning contractor, depending on what you actually do), clean up services and service areas, and keep photos and updates fresh. Google recommends choosing the most specific primary category that fits. This work is part of Local SEO.

A page for every job type

AC repair, furnace repair, heat pump installation, system replacement, ductless mini-splits, and maintenance plans each get their own page, with tap-to-call, real photos, financing or rebate notes you provide, and your service areas. For replacement pages, we link homeowners to trusted efficiency resources like ENERGY STAR’s air-source heat pump guide and the Department of Energy’s heat pump overview, which builds trust with buyers doing research.

Ads split by service line

HVAC is an eligible category for Local Services Ads, where you pay per lead. Google is moving LSA into Google Ads as Performance Max campaigns with pay-per-lead goals, and the migration notice recommends separate campaigns per business category if you want separate targets after migration. Our Local Services Ads guide covers the change. We pair LSA with Search campaigns split by service line (repair, replacement, maintenance) so each gets its own budget and bids. See how we structure them in Google Ads campaign structure for service businesses, and how we manage them under Paid Advertising.

Call tracking by source

We track calls and forms by source and service line, then send closed jobs back to Google Ads as offline conversions so bidding learns which searches turn into work. The how-to is in call tracking and offline conversions.

Follow-up & renewals

Missed-call text-back, same-day callbacks, follow-up on open replacement quotes, review requests after every visit, and renewal reminders for plan members. The playbook is in speed-to-lead.

SEASONAL PLAN

A 12-month HVAC marketing plan

This is a typical plan for a climate with real heating and cooling seasons. We adjust timing for your market.

Months Focus What runs
Jan–Feb Heating repair and replacement Heating ads at full budget, review requests after every call, replacement quote follow-up
Mar–Apr Spring tune-ups and plan sales Maintenance-plan pages and emails, AC tune-up offers, cooling pages refreshed
May–Aug Cooling repair and replacement Cooling ads at full budget, after-hours coverage, replacement follow-up
Sep–Oct Fall tune-ups and heating prep Furnace tune-up offers, heating pages and ads live before the first cold week
Nov–Dec Heating season and year-end installs Heating ads, plan renewals, follow-up on open quotes

ENERGY STAR’s maintenance checklist recommends a cooling checkup in spring and a heating checkup in fall, which lines up with the tune-up pushes above.

FAQ

HVAC marketing questions

With us, management fees run from $500/mo for one ad platform to $1,250/mo for the full Local Growth Engine, plus your ad spend. Your ad budget depends on your market and how many more jobs your crews can take. We’ll recommend a starting budget in your audit.

Ads and Local Services Ads can produce calls within days of launch once tracking is in place. Local SEO builds over a few months. Our 90-day local SEO timeline shows what typically happens month by month. That’s why we start heating campaigns before your busy season, not during it.

Often both. LSA charges per lead and sits at the top of many HVAC searches. Search ads give you more control over which jobs and keywords you pay for. We usually start with whichever your account history and budget support, then add the other once tracking shows cost per lead and lead quality.

Our packages are billed monthly. The $500 one-time setup fee is waived when you choose a 6-month agreement or if you already have the setup tools. We’ll walk through terms on your audit call so there are no surprises.
